VTL Machinist

Our VTL Machinists are responsible for setting up, adjusting, and operating large CNC and manual VTL 50” and larger machines. Specifics of this critical role include:

  • Perform progressive machining operations on a diversified line of generator and turbine parts and components

  • Holding exact requirements as to tolerance and finish

  • Read and understand complicated engineering drawings and specifications to plan work procedures, setups, operational sequences and repair procedures

  • Perform skilled set ups, machine and fabricate tools and perform alignments in conjunction with manufacturing engineering and planning

  • Train employees to perform set ups, adjust and operate the assigned machine tool

  • Lead efforts for equipment care and basic maintenance as specified by shop operations

  • Inspect finished parts and components with a variety of precision measuring instruments; and Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations

We require 3 to 5 years of experience in machine shop practices, CNC CAM programming, and manufacturing techniques working with large irregular work pieces, Experience in advanced rigging skills and techniques for handling large parts with overhead cranes and lift trucks. Must possess the ability to use geometry, algebra, and trigonometric principles together with the understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, and tables.  

Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

High school diploma/GED and valid driver’s license required.

Overtime is required and varies from job to job.
